Rooted Psychotherapy Methods

EMDR

EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a specialized trauma therapy designed to reprocess the past so it stops holding you back from who you really are. It helps to desensitize negative emotions and thoughts associated with traumatic experiences. It is ideal for anyone that seems to get stuck in the same patterns time and time again, someone who has experienced trauma, or someone who feels fragmented. To learn more, visit the EMDR International Association.

Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Somatic experiencing (SE) is a body-based therapy created to resolve traumatic experiences through body awareness and experiencing emotions or feelings that were unable to be felt at the time of the event. It helps to find resolution to past experiences that may still cause angst and pain. It is ideal for someone that has experienced a traumatic event, experienced chronic pain or illness, or someone who would like to gain more awareness of their emotions. To learn more, visit Somatic Experiencing International.

NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM)

NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) is a therapy designed to treat complex and developmental trauma. NARM approaches therapy with open curiosity, exploration of the self, and a relational approach that allows the client to understand the patterns of disconnection that are keeping them stuck and unsatisfied. It is ideal for someone struggling to feel more authentic and genuine in their relationships. To learn more, visit NARM training.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a therapy based in attachment theory. Attachment theory is a theory that teaches us about how we may form relationships as adults. EFT helps to identify what patterns couples or families may get stuck in, how to better meet the needs of ourselves and our loved ones, and how to repair conflicts in order to use them to be closer together. It is ideal for couples or families experiencing conflict. To learn more, visit Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Parts Work (Structural Dissociation)

While many are familiar with Internal Family Systems (IFS) as “parts work”, this approach to parts work is specialized in treating developmental and complex trauma. It focuses on bringing a sense of wholeness to a fragmented sense of self. These “fragments” of the self often feel stuck in the past and this form of parts work addresses that feeling. It is deal for anyone who has reactions and responses in their relationships that feel out of their control, or someone experiencing a deep sense of inner conflict (for example, part of me wants to trust my partner and part of me doesn’t). To learn more, visit Structural Dissociation.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy uses the tools of yoga to promote health and well-being physically, mentally, and spiritually. Yoga and meditation have profound effects on our health and yoga therapy brings all the best principles of yoga to the forefront. It is ideal for anyone wanting to better themselves, get more connected to their body, or seek some connection to spirituality. To learn more, visit the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) uses subanesthetic doses of ketamine to assist a person in navigating difficult to access emotions or experiences. It is used for “treatment resistant” depression, anxiety, and PTSD. KAP is very different from “IV clinics.” You will have a therapist with you throughout the experience to help you explore anything coming up for you. The setting is comfortable and personal to allow a safe place to process anything you need. To learn more, visit KAP.

Who we treat.

We specialize in creating fulfilling connections in your relationships—starting with yourself.

  • You look at all the self-help information out there about relationships and it says “love yourself first.” Okay…but how? That’s a harder question to find the answer to. At Rooted, we focus on building up the relationship to yourself to help bring more connection to the other relationships in your life…whether that’s a partner, your parents, pets, spirituality…we’ve got you covered.

  • We know…no one said it would be easy, but they did say it would be worth it. The road to “worth it” is not an easy one, but with the right guidance, it can be so rewarding. Our therapists work to understand your early attachment dynamics influence how you show up in relationship to your partner. We primarily use EFT (emotionally focused therapy) to treat couples—the most effective method of couples therapy to date.

Our process.

From our first phone call to our last session—the relationship between you and your therapist is our top priority.

  • Our first session will include history taking and getting a clear idea of what you want for yourself. You don’t have to come in knowing the answer to that— we can help you figure it out. From there, we move onto the treatment plan.

  • The treatment plan is a collaborative process. You will share with us your goals and we will share the best approach to get you there. If something isn’t working along the way, we pivot. We want to see you happy and fulfilled, so we avoid “hamster wheel” therapy and focus on tangible change.

  • Our entire practice is teletherapy (with the exception of ketamine sessions), which gives you the benefit of convenience and comfort of your own home. Teletherapy is just as effective as in-person therapy and all of our methods can be done virtually. Plus, you get to have your pets with you!

Occasionally, we offer 105-minute sessions purely for EMDR therapy. EMDR can be done in regular timed (50 minutes) sessions, however if there is significant trauma, extended sessions can be beneficial.
